Crazy

Post party clean-up was not as bad as it could have been: we’d pretty much done it all last night although I won’t be too keen on taking the glass recycling out with the number of bottles that look like they have been consumed.  It was a nice lazy day aside from that.

Then, in the evening, off to The Crazy Coqs (again) for another evening of musical theatre songs performed by some West End talent. This month it was The Crazy Coqs Presents: The West End sings Kander & Ebb which featured songs from Kiss Of The Spider Woman, Cabaret, Chicago and most intriguing of all, New York, New York.

The theme song from New York, New York was composed by Kander & Ebb  and originally performed by Liza Minnelli in the film of the same name. I don’t know how well it did but most people, obviously, associate it with Frank Sinatra.  What most surprised me - given how well known Frank was for singing it - was that he didn’t record it until 1979 and it was a chart hit for him in 1980. Some research shows that it only got to number 32 in the US charts and was his final Top 40 hit. Given how often it is heard and how well he is associated with it, you’d think he has been performing it for much long.
