Very modern and ancient

Plymouth Sound was a busy place this afternoon with about 10 SailGP high performance racing yachts preparing for a series of races at the weekend. It makes for an exciting spectator sport  as the hulls of the boats rise from the water on foils, drag is reduced and speed increases - 
50 mph is achievable. The courses will be set to give spectators on shore excellent viewing. In contrast moored in the Cattewater is a Dutch steamship with apparently was built in 1909  (pre- Titanic ) although now converted  to diesel power. It is moored against a French square rigged tall ship. see extra
