Strathmashie

L was returning to Aberdeen today and we drove him up to the railway station at Kingussie. His onward journey is relatively efficient with one change at Inverness. On the way up we took the dogs fora walk at the Badenoch Wall walk and stopped at Antlers in Newtonmore for an early lunch. The village was very busy (unknown to us beforehand) with a clan gathering and games day.
On the return the dogs got another wee walk here at Strathmashie. This conduit is partly open channel and partly tunnel and carries water from the Mashie Burn to the River Pattack. This is significant because flow naturally finding its way to the Spey system and ultimately to the North Sea is being diverted to the Glen Spean valley for hydro electric generation and then discharging to Loch Linnhe on the westside of the country. Thankfully, compensation flow rules, ensure that the Mashie does not run dry downstream of the dam and today the conduit is dry as a result.
