A Catalan Village

Rain

It used to be usual for every house to collect the rainwater from the roof and store it in an underground tank (cisterna), and this would be used for all the household needs. But now the village has mains water and so most houses discharge the roof water into the street, as the only surface water drains appear to be large grids right across the streets in places in order to catch the rivers that result.
