Progress update

Today's weather turned out better than expected - just a couple of brief showers and otherwise sunny, though still a very cold north-west wind. Thought it was about time to record the old field again - last blipped on 20 February and especially for our Canadian cousins who might be looking in. Glad to note there is some genuine progress to show! The raised vegetable beds take pride of place - two planted with potatoes (not showing yet) and the other two with strawberries. The rhubarb is just showing along the bottom edge of the beds. We bought leeks and beetroot plants today and started to dig over the spaces outside the boxes for them. Otherwise there has been tidying up all over the place. There are just as many stacks, though some in different positions - they are no sooner burnt than stacked high again with material cleared from elsewhere. Tomorrow's weather is good and hopefully we'll be able to burn some more of the drying out roots and vegetation.

The green clumps are daffodils (almost finished) or bluebells (just about to come out). The chestnut in the foreground is just coming into leaf. Little gunnera is located in the bottom right hand corner. Although the leaf stalked blipped on 11 April was frosted and is sadly withering, a new shoot is emerging from the base. The hedge just beyond has had a bit more trimmed off it. And the little yellow bush in the centre was transplanted from the top of our garden rockery. It's all still a bit bare at present, so we're looking forward to the trees coming into leaf soon.
