The New Beach Steps

Here they are!    I love that they are so “island natural”!…. but today was a bit anxiety producing… Our friends on the boat came up for coffee and internet but then H and I had to leave in considerable wind (wind makes me anxious) to go pick up Rene and Peter to FINISH the beach steps.   We had to wait for Rene (he doesn’t do mornings) and it was a thrash getting the boat into our dock in that wind since the two of them seem to know nothing about boats. And they thought they couldn’t finish if they had to use cement.    Groan.  But they went to work and selected some really big rocks.(  I’m sure they were both former Incas) that didn’t need cementing.   Some neighbors from the other end of the island walked down for a visit since we will not be able to go to the farewell party they are having for Cathy on sunday.   (We will see her tomorrow so no problem for us)   But the wind prediction held at 20-30 for  tonight and the boaters did not want to be tied to our dock in 30 knots. ( the last time they were here the wind came up about 10PM at 25 knots and they were not happy) )   so she decided we’d eat her lovely lasagna she’s been working on at 5:00 and then they’d go anchor somewhere more protected.    Fortunately the guys finished about 4:00 so we could take them back early and be back to eat dinner early.  Still windy.  But not huge.   (another big thrash…one didn’t take the stern line off!)   They were off and we decided to take the Alden rowing boat off the dock.. (it’s been known to blow over in a storm) I dropped my stick in the water ! So we had to ROW the tin boat to go get it…it floats.    I couldn't believe it when I saw some other neighbors stop by on a walk.   Short tho,. It’s now 8:00 AND CALM.!!!!    But it could still happen…I hope it storms in the middle of the night.
Extra, (the rock movers moving rocks,  . the neighbors that came for a visit on the beach inspecting.  we bring the guys espresso to perk them up.   and the boaters inspecting the work before they left…. and my favorite ..leaving Rene and Peter at the public dock at Montague… They did a great job ….they are such island characters. Peter has a masters in neurophysiology working with kids with autism etc, before moving to Galiano and running a B and B until covid.   He wants to retire too but will do the odd job with Rene.   I’m happy they wanted to do this one.  We will enjoy it.    Need quiet tomorrow.

Sorry for too many words today ..it was one of those days . I sure appreciate all the wonderful love from yesterday!
