Gdansk/Danzig

iaint has been in contact with the P2P team to send us material for our series of pictures to mark the locations mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war. We think that the followers of this journal will agree that this one is pretty special. It was taken inside the Museum of the second world war in Gdansk

Iain tells us that he visited Gdansk in February this year, having booked his trip the day before Russia invaded Ukraine. By the time he reached his destination a couple of weeks later, the hotel was mostly occupied by refugees.

Lorna mentions Gdansk (then Danzig) in the second sentence of her war diary, in the entry for September 1st 1939. Listen to Lorna's great-great niece express Lorna's reaction to the news that Germany has invaded Poland in Episode 1 of our podcast series. z

If you have a photograph (or photographs) of any of the locations mentioned in Lorna's Diary of the war (listed here) that you would be willing to donate to this journal, please get in touch with Hazel at h.hall@napier.ac.uk.
