These railings mean business

These medieval looking railings are on Edinburgh's South Bridge with similar sharp points on both sides of the road on the bridge above the Cowgate. I was walking between the Grads meeting and meeting my ex-S&N work colleagues for a a few drinks at the Guildford Arms. The conversation was wide-ranging as always, and not just sport. Although there was a fair bit of football and cycling chat! We also talked about politics, Thatcher's funeral, and the fight that broke out on the slopes of Mount Everest. G has experience of the Himalayas, having climbed to 7000m at the summit of a mountain that was named and climbed for the view it afforded of the north face of Everest. G also visited camp III (Advance Base Camp) on the northern route to the summit, although that was 'only' at 6500m, albeit on the way to the summit.
