Southern Hawker

Our return day home.

A dragonfly was active over the meadow pond when I walked through on the way back from the recycling centre, so I thought I would experiment and see if I could photo it in flight. Not at all easy as these little beasts are so quick. They hold a position for a couple of seconds and then dart to the next position. So I am quite pleased with this image, although I prefer the out of focus shot in the extra which I think better represents the movement of the male southern hawker.

I always think that dragonflies have rather malevolent clown-like faces.
