Transfixed

I was a long way behind this little boy when he came to a halt, seemingly transfixed by the wonder that is Katoomba in the rain.

Although it's school holidays, the town was very quiet, and shop after shop was either closed or empty and there were certainly no impressive vistas for the tourists to admire.
There must be a lot of people in dire financial straits.

The state's dams are full, the rivers are full, and there's nowhere for any more rain to go.
And to top it off, tomorrow's going to be cold.
The good news, however, is that we have a lot of dry kindling:)
