All Stood Still

Today, on Shetland, was a wee reminder how dependent we are on digital communications.  We woke up this morning to find that there was no mobile phone, no internet and no landline - all a result of the main subsea cable south of Shetland being trashed overnight (following on from the subsea cable to the north being damaged a couple of weeks ago - insert your favourite conspiracy theory).

While it was good to be spared the latest political news stories for a while - there was a sense of relief when services started reappearing mid-afternoon.

Picture taken while waiting to cross the runway at Sumburgh Airport - the planes (I'm told) did mostly run to timetable.
