Can't Play It Again, Sam

This weekend's Open Studios in San Francisco featured the artists at Hunters Point, a 28 year old art colony located on a decommissioned historic naval site. The buildings are fascinating repurposements of old offices and barracks, but many structures are slated for demolition as clean-up on the site continues. Over 300 artists work in the complex, and half of them participated in Open Studios. It was impossible to see everything, so we just wandered til we dropped, sampling our fill of painting, drawing, photography and printmaking. Most folks are so generous with their time and stories, happy to talk about their process and share anecdotes about the site and its history.
