Unexpected

After all this time of not having Covid, I learned that I had been exposed yesterday. One of our knitters had a bad case recently, and was on the mend after taking Paxlovid; she felt that she had obeyed all the rules and was clear to return to the world. Except when she got home last night she began to cough and tested positive once again, some kind of Paxlovid rebound, meaning that all of us had just spent an hour in the indoor unmasked company of someone who was sick. There is lots of scrambling, like, oh we didn't hug, or touch, or share anything; she was across the room; she didn't sneeze; it wasn't for very long; I didn't breathe the whole time I was there, so it's okay.

I suppose that sort of thing happens out in the world all the time without our knowing about it--people among us who don't realize yet that they have it. But this is the first time it has happened to me, and the knowing makes all the difference. I had to go look up protocol, which seems to be 10 days of being careful and wearing a good mask, with a test on Day 6 unless you have symptoms, which then would be sooner. Not necessarily isolation, but we all felt it was better for ExtraDays to postpone her upcoming trip here. She was able to find new flights quite easily, but it settles hard to know she won't be here this week.

It's complicated by the fact that we had our booster shots yesterday, right after the exposure, so any fatigue and upset that I might have right now are probably due to the vaccine and not the disease.

So never say never, and cross your fingers.
