Sweet Chestnut

On my walk in Pollok Park I pass many Horse Chestnut trees, Oak Trees and only a few Sweet Chestnuts.

For many weeks the ground has been covered with conkers, both in and out of their prickly casing and acorns, more out of their wee egg cups than in. The last to drop have been the sweet chestnuts which remain in their very spiny casing even after it has opened. Acorns and conkers are easily carried home, sweet chestnuts are not unless you are wearing a pair of very tough gloves.
