Chattahoochee River

Wednesday, 23 November
Jen was working again today, but at her suggestion we enjoyed another wonderful day, visiting Chattahoochee River National Recreation area, CRNRA, across the other side of Atlanta, to the northwest of the centre. The CRNRA was established in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter, preserving a series of sites between Atlanta and Lake Sidney Lanier along a 48 mile stretch of the river. We took the East Pallisades trail, which follows the river, sometimes alongside it, at other times climbing up to bluffs overlooking the river, and culminates at a small forest of towering bamboo, reaching up about 30 feet. Being so much further south, it still seems like late Fall here - as you can see there is still a lot of colour about, while back home virtually all the trees are bare. In the evening we were picking Laura up at Atlanta airport at about 9pm. It was absolutely chaotic - once we were on the airport site, we were queuing in traffic for 25 minutes to get to pick her up at the terminal - the joys of airline travel on Thanksgiving Eve! We have flown through Atlanta airport a number of times over the years and always felt that despite its huge size and number of flights, it was quite easy and straightforward to transfer through. However, we now know it is not a good airport for meeting people - poorly signed and organized! We eventually made it and picked her up. It was a very late dinner that night, as Jen wasn’t home until 9pm, so we hadn’t eaten before we went, and by the time we got back it was gone 10 pm!
