Bring the dream home

Over the last few years the local Air Cadets have raised money for a replica Spitfire to be built and placed in the area that was once RAF Grangemouth; a wartime fighter base to 602 and 603 squadrons and then fighter conversion base. 71 pilots from the UK, The Republic of Ireland, Belgium, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Australia, New Zealand, The United States, and Canada died here in training and there must have been more after they went to operational squadrons.

I'm no great fan of kids in military organisations, but hats off to them for making this effort to remember the young men who came here and died for our freedom.

This replica is of the Spitfire flown by a young Polish pilot who died near Polmont.
