Black headed gull in winter plumage

Yes their heads turn white in winter so that they don't stand out from the crowd. I remember a few years ago seeing a stoat in a beautiful ermine coat trying to hide in a gorse bush. Of course there was no snow so it stood out in a glaring way. I've just seen a female chaffinch on the bird feeder. Maybe the same one as yesterday. Welcome back.
