Mt Hood

Today we left behind the lush green forests of Washington and northern Oregon with their numerous waterfalls and rivers, seeing the peaks of Mts Hood and Washington tantalisingly visible in the gaps in the forests of conifers, when we travelled south and east along the Columbia River Gorge to reach Hood River for lunch, and our overnight stop in the town of Bend on the River Deschutes.

We are now in the high desert area with very different scenery from the past few days- much more scrub and evidence of lack of rain.

It has been a long drive for Oilman, but we have had numerous stops for photo shoots including the Bridal Veil and Multnomah Waterfalls, both of which were spectacular for the sheer height at which they cascaded over the basalt rocks.

We have spent the last hour enjoying wine and beer on the deck outside our room overlooking the river and watching canoeists and fishermen in the evening sunshine.
We have been joined by two Canada Geese and two roe deer, trimming the border plants very effectively.
