Disused railway lines.

The well known Dr. Beeching, 50+ years ago, made recommendations which led to the closure of thousands of miles of branch railway lines. No doubt some of it was necessary but it did not leave him with a good reputation.

However, our generation can thank him for many hundreds of miles of lovely flat footpaths as seen on our morning walk today.
