Now, as I see it......

Swanning around

We went for a walk across the salt marsh at Cley this morning.  A glorious morning; cold, but really clear and lovely light.  There seemed to be lots of swans flying around, and we saw three stonechats as well as several other birds.  At one point we came across quite a few twitchers all pointing their scopes in the same direction; we asked what they had seen and were told it was a Long Billed Dowitcher.  Now, I don't know about you, but if a Long Billed Dowitcher walked up and slapped me round the face with a piece of fish I still wouldn't recognise it; but we had a look through the binoculars and might have seen it; looked rather like a curlew.  Anyway, we looked it up when we got home and apparently it is a native of Alaska and Siberia and classed as an 'accidental' in the UK, with only about four sightings each year, so no wonder the twitchers were pleased.

Clearly, word must have been getting out as there seemed to be a constant stream of new twitchers arriving as we walked back to the car.  Looking back, it was starting to look very busy.
