Quod oculus meus videt

Goldcrest

We walked from Grasmere to Ambleside today, on a day that stayed dry and even provided some sunlight on occasion (see extra).  The stand out memory was our interaction with birds.  While sitting having a coffee a robin was walking around our feet waiting for any crumbs that might drop.  Then another robin sat on the fence, bold as brass, just a few feet from where we were standing and to top that a goldcrest worked its way along a hedge at the same sort of distance.  The goldcrest won out because it was rarer.

Add to that we checked out whether the tawny owl we saw last November was still in the same tree (it was).  We also came across a very well supplied honesty shop on the trail.  To see a vacuum flask of hot water, with cups and cake available for the passers by is a certainly a step up (see extra).

Then a bite to eat at Zeffirelli's before catching the bus back to the hotel.
