Stone Curlew.

I've photographed these before.

This is a male; he's patrolling around his wife who is sitting on some eggs in the local supermarket's car park.  

the thing that surprised me was as I walked past him, he hissed at me.  A bit like swans do.

I've never heard them make that noise before.
