Cruachan

This afternoon, as the local MSP, I visited the Cruachan power station, the largest pump storage station in Scotland and a remarkable engineering achievement which will shortly be fifty years in operation.

The tunnel in to the generating chamber is over a kilometre long and , at this point, several hundred metres under the mountain I had a great tour with Gareth Piggot the Station Manager and my old colleague Phil Henderson, now Scottish Power's Head of Government Affairs along with the senior managers responsible for engineering and production.

Thanks - it was fascinating and I will be back for a future visit to see the dam and loch that lies up above.
