Stunner

Had regular call with JS this morning Then we decided it looked like a beautiful morning so we headed over to Fife and went to Ruby Bay at Elie. We scoured around on the beach combing the small stones to try and find the little garnets that apparently can be found there. Much harder than we thought, and I don’t think any of the bits we saw that were vaguely the right colour were anything other than brown/red sea glass! Still, it was lovely to be on the beach, with Oyster Catchers and Sanderlings on the rocks and water’s edge, a perfectly deep blue sky and almost warm. Gorgeous.
We walked round for lunch at the Ship Inn but it was full! I’d have thought a Monday in February would be quiet, but I guess all these retired people (!) plus half term meant we should have booked. Headed instead to Crail and the harbour cafe where we sat outside overlooking the sparkling sea and shared some soup and a panino in the sun. After a little wander around the harbour with all its lobster pots we drove on to Cambo to see the snowdrops. Absolutely gorgeous…the woods around the estate and down to the beach were carpeted with so many different varieties of snowdrops and snowflakes (my favourites), aconites, and tiny irises (some of which were really unusual colours). We wandered around the walled garden…very beautiful even whilst most of the plants were dormant with very carefully tilled and composted beds, pruned fruit trees and roses and beautiful sculptures and benches. The beach was another lovely one and we watched the waves roll in and mused on why today we’ve seen so many limpet shells when on the Lothian coast we saw very few (remembering the Australian beaches with almost not a single shell or pebble!).
Bought a couple of biscuits for the drive home and followed a stunning sunset most of the way, listening to the news of spy balloons as we passed Scotland's (very well signposted) 'Secret' Bunker. Made us laugh! A lovely day, wound up with take out noodles from the Malaysian restaurant which were delicious and the end of Series 2 of Ted Lasso.
