Tarbert

Sat 11th
Travelled West today. West ! Hooray !
The road took us (the three of us, including Maeve the deerhound!) through or past Dundee, Perth, Crieff, Comrie, Loch Earn, Crianlarich, Tyndrum (stopped for lunch at the Green Welly Stop), Inverary, Lochgilphead ( stopped for shopping), and Tarbert. At Tarbert we took the ferry to Portavadie on the Cowal peninsula then made the short drive via Millhouse to the Ardlamont Estate and our holiday cottage. We like to come this way rather than make the longer drive round from Inverary on to the Cowal peninsula. It adds a ferry to the journey and makes it feel like we are off on an island adventure.

Studio cottage sits beside one other small cottage (the old estate schoolhouse) in woodland amidst farmland near the Southernmost point of the Cowal peninsula. From the back windows we have views out over fields of sheep, lambs, and horses to Kintyre on our right, Arran straight ahead, and Inchmarnock on our left. Just over from the small island of Inchmarnock is the Isle of Bute which is very close across the Kyles of Bute when we go to the villages of Kames and Tighnabruaich which are both nearby.

After settling in we did drive round to Tighnabruaich and had a short walk along the shore but as the weather has been wet for most of the day we went back to the cottage and had a quiet evening with a warm fire in the log burner.
