Today our Prime Minister announced that people arriving at UK borders by small boat will be denied the international human right under the 1951 Geneva Convention (to which the UK is a signatory, for now) to claim asylum or humanitarian protection.

... the next huge wave of migrants seeking safety will be those fleeing climate and ecological disaster: floods, fires, starvation... Sunak's fears are accurate, this will be like nothing seen before and will completely overwhelm the countries due to be affected later in the climate-collapse process. What else can we do, really, other than to huddle under a warm heater and order another £8.75 glass of Oblivion (11.6% proof, 88.4% scepticism).

(Elsewhere on Blipfoto today I read a comment that the decline of city shopping centres is due to 'the advance of progressive socialism'. I wish I'd spotted progressive socialism in some city centre or other but a little part of my heart is reassured that my out-and-out unreasonableness here is balanced by other saner voices.)
