Chatsworth

Day out at Chatsworth today.

First we had a wander around the gardens.  Some areas were off limits as there were trees that had been damaged by the recent snow falls and were in danger of losing more branches.

After lunch, we had a tour up the tower.  This took us past the lovely window (first extra) created from minerals mined from the Blue John cavern.  It also took us to the theatre, then up onto the balcony in the open air where we had excellent views over the parkland.

Following that, and after a brief detour to the fountain (it was windy - we got wet) we walked the mile to the estate village at Edensor where we had a look around the village and church.  The font was very ornate (other extra).  The village was created so that people could be moved off the land so Capability Brown could do his stuff with landscaping near the main house.  There is a variety of architectural styles in the village - the Duke at the time was asked what style he wanted, given a list, and just said "do one of each."
