New Holland Honeyeater

The New Holland Honeyeater is mostly black and white, with a large yellow wing patch and yellow sides on the tail. It has a small white ear patch, a thin white whisker at the base of the bill and a white eye.

This honeyeater is a very active bird, and sexes are similar in looks, but females are slightly smaller in size.

The New Holland Honeyeater's range extends throughout southern Australia, from about Brisbane, Queensland, to just north of Perth, Western Australia. They are very common in our garden and I caught this one with a beak full of small grubs. Not much "honey" around at this time.

Clearer beak and grubs.

The New Holland Honeyeater is common in woodland and gardens, in particular where grevilleas and banksias are found. It is an inquisitive bird and often approaches humans. This makes him a wonderful subject for blip!
