Bird house

Business trip to Melrose this afternoon. Stopped off at Greenknowe Tower on the way back - something we've been meaning to do for ages. Tower houses were traditionally homes of the Scottish Lairds; this one was built in 1581, probably for James Seton and his wife.

We hadn't realised that you can climb up to the top floor. An interesting building, now inhabited only by birds. Not sure what sort - they flew off, protesting loudly, as we climbed the spiral staircase. Large nests on most of the window ledges and, in one nest, three chicks.

An interesting-weather day! Warm sunshine until we stopped at the tower. Then, just for a couple of minutes, sleet...
