Roman shadows

Today we took the AVE to Segovia, 90 km in just half an hour. Segovia is best known for its Roman aqueduct, which is the first thing you see when you get off the bus from the station, towering hugely over the nearby buildings. The town also has a fairy-tale castle that rivals Carcassonne on a smaller scale, an excessively ornate cathedral, and many attractive streets to wander around. It's dotted with churches too, every single one of which has storks nesting on top of the tower.

Other than that, there isn't a huge amount to actually do in Segovia. We belatedly discovered that Antonio Machado lived there for some years, and managed to miss a guided tour of his house by five minutes -- they seem to be very prompt around here!

And now, no time to ramble on -- it's S's birthday, and we are off to dine at the oldest restaurant in the world (allegedly), at the very Spanish hour of 10 pm. I backblipped our wedding anniversary lunch yesterday, if you are interested.

PS this is SOOC except for a minimal crop. I like my little Olympus, and I've been using it a lot on this trip. This reminds me just how good the Nikon is "out of the box".
