Laon

We intended to spend today hiking from our bnb but it was cold and wet, so spent time browsing in the nearest hypermarket... enjoying seeing all wonderful fruit, fish, cheeses, cakes etc...and bought a few bits to bring home. Still raining, so a visit to Laon - capital of Aisne in Picardy and perched on a rocky hill with a huge cathedral dating back to the 12th century. Enjoyed crêpes and hot chocolate then  discovered an alleyway full of frescoes and trompe- l'oeils: main blip. Then wow!:the cathedral was amazing, so majestic inside and had a wonderful serenity and light. See also an extra - portrait of Victor Hugo and very old quotes which are so relevant today (basically saying we should respect our planet). On the way back we visited a wonderful quirky barn/shop and a local farmers market. Great day!
