Wednesday: Chess Exhibition

A little while ago, Nigel Short, got in touch with me to say that he was visiting Belize.  I actually remember him from years ago and think I may have seen him on ‘Blue Peter’.

He was here playing some chess exhibition matches with the Belize Chess Federation.  As they didn’t have a venue I offered them the patio at the house.  For the exhibition, Nigel (in the red shirt) played 20 simultaneous matches - it was actually pretty tense at times but someone did comment to me that chess is not really a spectator’s sport.

The chap in the grey shirt, on the left of the photo, was last man standing although he didn’t beat Nigel.
