Dead grass

I believe that dead grass is straw. Is that right? Hay is supposed to be grass that still has some green it it. Hay has nutritional value and is used as fodder for animals. Straw does not, only being useful as bedding. I haven’t tried it yet.
 
My Scot’s word of the day is scunnered (verb) and scunner (noun)
I wis fair scunnered at that cuddy falling at the final fence of the National: The poor performance of that horse deprived me of considerable winnings.
I took a right scunner to that wifie at the till: The officious lady who served me was not my cup of tea.
