Colon or Leo Mesi?

The Barcelona City Council gave green light to Nike to dress the discoverer Christopher Columbus with the Barca shirt and colors.
It is an unusual situation in the city which has caused much controversy.

Anyway, the Football Club Barcelona fans are happy with this image, especially when there is people that says that Columbus was Catalan (I never had read any evidences of this).

However, of having been Catalan, there is no way of knowing if he had been a fan of Barcelona or a fan of El Español, the other local professional football club in town.
