Kit's Year

Mother and Baby

This morning in La Fortuna we booked a tour at a small private reserve called Bogarin. Our guide William was one of the family Bogarin who had farmed the land prior to setting it up as a reserve making the most of the government support available. It was amazing how much forest had grown up in the 18 years it had been running. William obviously loved his job and made sure we saw sloths (6 both male, female, 2 toed and 3 toed and this mother and baby), as well as plenty of birds, reptiles and insects.

In the afternoon we had a hike booked upto the Arenal Volcano, this is where we encountered the first rain of the trip, luckily it only lasted 10mins. We climbed as far up as we were permitted but with all the mist and rain we didn’t get to see the top of the cone shaped volcano.

We finished the day at the hot springs and it was an unusual experience sitting in 40 degree pools in a tropical rainstorm.
