Ety's Christening

This is the christening of our fourth grandchild Ety, in Lacken church, a wonderful old building dating back to about four hundred years. It is also the church where John and Noo got married.
It was again a beautiful day to be on the lake shore of the Blessington lakes. The picture shows brave little Ety coping with the cold water without complaint.
Thanks to Fr Teddy for a wonderfully meaningful and inclusive ceremony and to Layla and Andrew, who were beginning their life long commitment as Godparents (sorry to break the news!!).
The ceremony was bilingual, in Irish (Gaeilge) and English and the prayers of the congregation were so beautiful.

I think the prayers are ones worth sharing:

1. Thank you for the joy that Ety brings. May she take delight in the colours around her, may she hear music in the sounds of nature, may her words be soft and her hands be gentle.
Lord Hear us

2: Make the faith of Ety's parents and godparents inspire and guide her throughout her life.
Lord Hear Us.

3: Go gcumhdaí Dia muintir uile Ety - Muintir Ui Chadhain agus Muintir Ui Ailpin, agus a ngaolta i bhfad is i ngearr.
A Thiarna Eist Linn

4: Guide Fr.Teddy in his Ministry. He is much loved by his parishioners. Watch over him and keep him well.
Lord Hear Us

5: Guimis ar son ar son na dtuismitheoiri agus na n-gar-thuismitheoiri atá imithe ar shli na firinne. Gabhaimid buiochas leat as an am a chaith said in ar measc agus as an aire agus grá a leirigh said duinn.
Lord Hear Us

6: We thank you Lord that Ety such a happy little one. We ask you to invoke their guardian Angels to comfort all little children in times of strife, to nourish them in times of hunger, to heal them in times of sickness and to protect them in times of danger. Lord Hear Us.

After the ceremony a wonderful evening was enjoyed by all in Carrigacurra.
