Painted Lady

I went out today at lunch with the sole intention of photograhing dragonflies but came back with shots of butterflies. If you are a UK nature watcher and have been following BBC2's springwatch you will be aware that the largest migration of Painted Lady butterflies to hit the UK in decades is happening at the moment. This delicate little insect has flown from North Africa across the Sahara Desert, Mediterrainean Sea, Spain, English channel and upto Lancashire. It's in remarkable condition for such a long journey lets hope the good weather keeps up and it breeds producing offspring in the late summer for the return journey.
