The Death Strip

Our last day in Berlin. We took a tram to Nordbahnhof to visit the Berlin Wall visitor centre. I don't think either of us had appreciated how much more than a wall the Wall was. Streets were bisected and whole swathes of buildings were demolished to leave this open space, nicknamed the "death strip" by West Berliners. It was thought provoking experience standing in this no mans land, thinking about the lives that were so affected by it.

In the afternoon we went to the DDR museum, a fascinating and quirky insight into life in East Germany. I (Chris) sat in a Trabant and there were plenty of other real examples of uniquely East German products.

After a spell of people watching in the airport (why are people quite so funny and annoying when they travel?) we flew back the Heathrow. Annie finished the trip off with another round of over excitement at the Heathrow "pod" transport system.
