Two Peas

Two peas in two pods
Who would have thought, what were the odds?
That the double-yolked eggs I’d been eating all week
Would herald the sight of two dots on the screen!

Two dots?
Two dots!

The sound of two heartbeats,
Surprisingly fast,
These two buds of life were unique from the start.

As those peas burst their pods
And arrived in this world,
Their futures diverged as those first limbs uncurled

As infants, through childhood,
The difference was clear.
It was hard to believe that they’d ever been near.

But they’ve forged their own journeys,
They’ve danced their own dance,
They’ve embraced the epitome of   “Vive la difference!"

These teenagers have blossomed, against many odds.
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday!
To two peas in two pods.
