Stockholm Day 1

This is a late posting - we’ve been busy being tourists.

This morning the four of us took the 9:18 train from Västerås to Stockholm.  We checked into the hotel, dropped our bags then went for fika at Konditori Vete-Katten (the wheat cat) to start the day.  Today I had the cardamom bun - delicious!  After fika we set off to wander around Stockholm.  M was our guide and he led us through lots of different areas, so we got an overall look at Stockholm.  The sun shone, the sky was blue and the water sparkled.  It was such a lovely walk.  We sat on a bench overlooking the area where Lake Mälaren flows into the sea, enjoying the view and eating a banana.  Later we found a small café and had iced coffee - so good.  We walked and walked and walked.  We found another café looking across the water to the amusement park and enjoyed the view while enjoying a cold drink - non-alcoholic bubbles for the girls, beer for the boys.  We walked some more until we arrived in a small square near to the restaurant we were booked into for our evening meal.  K disappeared up some steps followed closely by MrMacD and I and we found ourselves on a large terrace bar, once again overlooking the water.  K and I had G&T, MrMacD a glass of wine.  We looked at the water and the view and we did some people watching.  We finished our drinks just as it was time to walk to the restaurant.  M had done a lot of research on restaurants and this one had several good reviews.  It is called Woodstockholm.  They do a four-course menu (no starter or dessert), but you can choose to order a starter and/or a dessert if you so desire.  The menu changes every couple of months and always has a theme.  The current theme is the 90s, so the food was based on events that happened or objects that appeared in the 90s.  It was different, exciting, a taste explosion.  The staff were excellent and explained each dish in detail as it was served.  We enjoyed all four dishes, but I would have liked two of the second dish and also the last dish - they were just so good.  What a wonderful experience.  Definitely one we’ll remember.  Afterwards we walked back to the hotel enjoying the beautiful evening.  We were tired, but happy.  It’s been a wonderful day of exploring, looking, just enjoying beautiful Stockholm in the sunshine.  And we walked 13kms!

The main blip and extra show views of the day.
