Never Give Up

This Japanese Quince may look a bit straggly (ok, it is straggly) but I am surprised to see it in flower.

At one time it was in a pot, rooted through to the earth below, but thriving. Then we had the garden landscaped and it was one of the shrubs that was yanked up and tossed on the veg patch. By the time I realised that the workers hadn't heeled any of them in they were all looking very sad but I planted them up anyway.

That was five years ago. I thought all the shrubs had died, but a couple of shoots that eventually grew from the base of the quince are mature enough to flower.

Well worth the wait!
