A flower at Lake Roesiger

It's been a really wonderful day. My mom and I picked up breakfast and headed to Lake Roesiger. This is one of the very few places my dad and I never got to. The lake is named after Richard O. Roesiger. Mr. Roesiger was born in 1862. After he got his education and learned the trade of Blacksmith, he left Germany and headed to America at the age of 20. In 1882 he worked his way across the country. He first worked for Northern Pacific and then in the coal mines not far from where I live today.By 1886 the coal mine conflicts / strikes were happening. In 1887 he had enough and walked 85 miles north. He found this lake and made a 160 acre claim. He had been writing to 4 women as was looking for someone who could milk a cow. In planning a better life for his new wife he built a barn, a large garden and even planted roses. In 1892 Caroline Anna Heubner arrived to Snohomish from Germany, Richard married her and then walked 13 miles to his homestead. By 1897 they had 4 children, a horse, several cows, chickens and pigs. They sold milk, butter, eggs, sweet cider, hard cider and blackberry wine to the nearby logging camps. A side note - one Douglas Fir tree was enough lumber to build six 5 bedroom homes. Richard and Anna survived 59 years on their 160 acres. Richard passes away in 1946 and Anna in 1948.  I added the location of the park on the map

From there we drove through the forest, along the rivers and.. I added an extra of snow still one of the peaks in the area. On the way home we stopped at the cat candy store. Can a kitty ever have to many toys and treats? Once home, Tiger played with the cheapest $2 mouse for over an hour... A really wonderful Sunday.
