Fallow Deer of Cannock Chase

A quiet day, we headed to the stables to help out with the chores for Meg and then went for a walk around Brocton Coppice.

As we returned to the car we came across a few of the fallow deer that inhabit this area.  On the left is the common colouration of fallow deer, on the other side of the fence the melanistic colouration.  From reading there are also menil colouration (a lighter version of the common) and white (as the name suggests even paler in colour, but not albino).

The fence marks the separation of the conservation area (an old sand and gravel quarry where the deer stay protected and where much of the rift takes place).
