litl hikes

Another train ride in another direction but with some ticket machine problems. For Swiss tickets you can select ‘English’ on the machine. For the adults we bought a Chamonix day pass each but they had to be bought and paid for individually. We also needed two children’s tickets for the French part of the journey. The machine didn’t have an English language option for these and Jane didn’t realise that you bought them by age and accidentally purchased two for 3 to 5 year olds. E and N are 7 and 8. There was no ticket check on the outward journey. We enjoyed great views from the train.

We wandered into Chamonix and had coffees, though they messed the order up and I’m certain it wasn’t our fault. It was quickly corrected. Fortunately one of us had been bright enough to realise that we’d need Euros to pay for things. It wasn’t me!

Then around town until N decided he was hungry. I didn’t like the look of the first place the men were intending to go into and later found what I thought was a much nicer cafe near the station where we sat outside.

We then travelled on the mountain train up to Montenvers, took some photos showing where the glacier was and the effect of climate change on the landscape then walked down to the viaduct (and back). Waited to get on the next train down the mountain and had 2 minutes to dash to the railway station for the train back into Switzerland. We made it. Tickets were checked on the French side, fortunately not closely enough to see the ages on the children’s ones.

Ewan cooked again tonight. Mac and cheese (his way with a few extras).
