The Bitches,, Ramsey Sound

“In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans ”
Kahlil Gibran
Early-ish start to get over to the Preseli’s for 10.30 for K2’s appointment with the ring-maker (very Lord of the Rings). While K2 and R have their meeting we soak up the sun and enjoy the setting, with the kids scooting around the farm on their new bikes.
Business done we headed for Fishguard, missing Castell Henllys and Pentre Ifan (have to save those for another time, we’re on the clock today). Headed straight for Jane’s wool shop and café in town for lunch, a relaxing meal in the sunshine in the garden. We ate here last year when we were still without a permanent home and the food and the welcome were so good we had to come back (K1 wanted more wool too!). A wander around town and to the Gorsedd stones for me, K2 and R were lost in Seaways bookshop and K1 was…who can tell.
Next stop St.David’s to see if we could get on a boat trip around Ramsey in the afternoon. Parked in the visitor centre and lhoofed  it into town to the booking office, yes, there is availability on the 3.45pm…which is just leaving. On to the next booking office in the centre and they have availability…on two separate boats. Five minutes later they’ve rearranged their passenger lists and we’re all on the 4.30pm, so we need to leg it to St.Justinian’s which is a few miles out. It doesn’t help that I drive out quickly without checking direction…and have to do a U turn! Fortunately it’s well signposted and with Sat Nav assistance (R, K1 and K2) we get there with five minutes to spare (well, time to get our jackets and life vests on anyway). There’s a trip-boat moored ready at the quay, but it fills up quickly and is about to leave so I’m wondering where ours is? Then I notice this other ‘thrill-seeker’ boat, all sticky back plastic and lemonade bottles, yes it’s a RHIB boat, open with a few bench seats (and trailing corded rope to hang onto) and saddle seats up front for those who don’t mind getting wet. Oops. My qualms are soon settled as we head out and it bounces along quite happily, this is fun! Our hour long trip passes by so quickly, with really interesting and entertaining commentary from the skipper behind us – and enough wildlife (seals, razorbills, guillemots and fulmar petrels) to make it more than just a boat trip.
Back in St.David’s we wandered around the outside of the cathedral, closed in preparation for tonight’s concert by a Zulu choir who we could hear practising inside. We were in need of dinner so headed in and soon found somewhere offering a warm welcome and good food. As we returned to the car park we passed the old Bishop’s Palace and caught the tail end of a flautist playing, silhouetted in one of the arched windows. Transfixed, we stood and listened for a minute or two until the piece was finished, then applauded spontaneously which brought a bow and a wave from the flautist.
The journey back to the caravan would take well over an hour, past sunset and too late for a walk to Manorbier beach, so we paused briefly at Newgale to enjoy the setting sun and take a walk on the beach.
Days like this just have to be enjoyed to the full and special moments treasured, the memories – and photos – will always be with me.
