Janaka's house, Sri Lanka

Meet Krishnan, IMPACT Sri Lanka's Treasurer. He has been out meeting people living in the area surrounding IMPACT's Community Health Clinic.

This is Janaka's house. He is lucky that it is still standing after an elephant sidled in recently and ate his family's vegetables. Peacocks are also frequent (and noisy!) visitors.

The hut is cool during the day, due to its thatching and mud floors but it can get surprisingly chilly at night. The nearest water source is 2.5km away. But things are changing on this front. A new dam is being built which will hopefully improve water supply in the area and enable more permanent dwellings to be built.

Janaka recently attended IMPACT's clinic and was grateful for the medical help he was given. There is a government hospital nearby but it is over-crowded and under-resourced.
