The Long and Winding Road

We did a lovely walk on campus early this morning—through the farm, up the tawny hill, and down again. Bluebirds of happiness, round fat new bunnies, a couple of bouncing fawns: the meadows are so full of life. A few weeks ago these hills were paved with lupine, which now is nowhere to be found. The sky looks threatening, but it’s only our morning fog. By noon all was clear and the laundry was spinning in the wind.

I went on a domestic tear—gathered up the frozen chicken bones and made a pot of broth; cooked up some lentils for lunch salads; put together a sausage, bean and kale soup, also for lunches. Had a break, but now it’s time for chicken and spinach curry; it goes quickly in the InstantPot but it still needs a human hand. Mr S has already done the prep. I come in as the closer to throw it all together and push the start button.
