The Dome

At St Paul's Cathedral this morning for a service of thanksgiving for the life of Sir Christopher Wren. This on the anniversary of 300 hundred years of his death (WREN300). It was a lovely service- (despite not knowing any of the hymns) and we were sitting bang underneath the dome. I was privileged to be there as a guest of William and Caroline Hill. William is a past Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors.

I learnt that 87 churches were destroyed in the Great Fire and in 1670 construction began on 52 new churches (following the merger of a number of parishes). Wren was responsible for them all.

After the service we had a smashing lunch at Grocers' Hall.

A really lovely day.
