Cape Malay curry

Cape Malays also known  Cape Muslims, or Malays are a Muslim community or ethnic group in South Africa. They are the descendants of enslaved and free Muslims from different parts of the world who lived at the Cape during Dutch and British rule.

Cape Malay cuisine forms a significant part of South African cuisine.

This chicken and rice dish makes heavy use of turmeric (borrie) in both elements and features in many other of the heritage dishes such as Bobotie

Served today with a banana, coconut and yoghurt Sambal
