Tern Chicks

I went back to the beach with the protected dunes for terns and plovers, hoping that the few nests that remain had produced chicks.  I was on my way out when I spotted movement along the stretch where ocean plant and shell remnants have collected during high tide.  Sure enough - two Least Tern chicks!  I spent a couple of hours with them, but had some difficulty getting good shots.  The piles of shells were distractions, and the low contrast between the chicks and the sand made it difficult to maintain focus.  As an extra, I posted one of a parent with both offspring, and was surprised that they are different colors.  Yet they all turn out the same in the end.  Fascinating.
